Robert Grosvenor

°1937 New York, USA

Robert Grosvenor is known for his monumental spatial installations, blurring the boundaries between sculpture and architecture. Initially linked to the Minimalist movement, with participation to historical exhibitions "Primary Structures" at the JewishMuseum in New York in 1966 and 1968 "Minimal Art" at the Gemeentemuseum, Den Haag, the artist practice evolves towards a more archaic sculpture in the 1980-90s through the use of industrial materials found in the suburbs of New York (pieces of car bodywork, plexiglass, stone, brick, concrete, coloredsoft plastic). These rough materiels give Grosvenor's pieces a powerfull 'directness' that is in turn softened by the the fragility of the structure.
